5 Steps to Clear Skin

Over the course of the time I have been on YouTube I have had my fair share of rough skin moments and moments where I thought that I thought my skin would never get better. I am here to report that it does! I have narrowed it down to 5 things that I think will instantly improve your skin and what have helped me a lot.

Water & Clean Eating

Obviously it so important to drink lots of water. It not only improves your overall lifestyle, but it will also improve your skin tremendously. What you eat also shows on your skin. When I am eating like crap, it shows and when I am eating healthy it shows. Watch what you eat (greasy foods especially), drink lots of water and I promise, you will see such a change in your skin. I am currently dying to order this water bottle.

Masks

If you guys follow my YouTube channel, I struggled with my skin a lot in the month of December. From dryness, to breaking out, I believe that masks were the one thing that helped me get my skin back to normal. No matter what you are dealing with in regards to your skin, I promise you that there is a mask to help fix it. If you don’t know which one to choose, go into a Sephora, tell a sales associate what you’re struggling with and ask for a sample so you can try it out before buying it!
I use the Dermalogica Sebum Clearing Mask when my skin is acting up, the Glamglow Brightening Mask right after I have a breakout to brighten the spot it left behind or when I just want to brighten up my complexion and then finally, if my skin needs some serious hydration and I want an instant glow, nothing is better than the Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask

Removing Makeup

This goes without saying, but if you aren’t washing your face at night (makeup on or not) your skin is going to see the side effects. Leaving makeup on your skin or the overall dirt from the day will clog your pores, resulting in unwanted breakouts. If you struggle with getting the motivation to wash your face at night, buy the $9 Simple Makeup Wipes at Ulta and keep them on your nightstand - your skin will thank you.

Double Cleansing

A lot of people don’t realize the importance of double cleansing. You need to cleanse your face once to get rid of makeup and any dirt you’ve collected from the day and another time to actually clean your skin. Even if I haven’t worn makeup that day, I still cleanse my skin twice at night because I want to make sure that I got everything off of my skin that I could! To remove my makeup, I swear by Philosophy Purity Cleanser because it removes every single bit of makeup and is so gentle on the skin. This stuff seriously works for every skin type. To actually clean my skin I will either use the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel or the Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash if my skin has been acting up. Make sure that you are exfoliating at least twice a week, I have been loving this one from Kiehl's.

Moisturizer

If there is one product in your routine to invest in, it’s moisturizer. One misconception is that if you have oily skin, you can skip the moisturizer, but it is actually the exact opposite -- you have to moisturize no matter what! Regardless of your skin type, make sure that you are investing in a good moisturizer.  I know that moisturizers can be expensive so if you are looking for a good drugstore option, the Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer does a great job!
I am currently using the Origins Dr. Weil Mega Bright Skim Illuminating Moisturizer and I really like it! I picked this up to help with my dark spots and it does give my skin a nice luminosity. I'm not sure if I will re-purchase it, but I do recommend it if you want a good hydration and a dewiness to your skin.

Always remember that if your skin isn't looking good, no amount of makeup is going to be able to fix it, so if you can, spend your money on the good stuff. Also make sure that you are washing your makeup brushes at least once a week and same with your pillow case. Those come into contact with your skin so often, so if you aren't washing them, they can cause breakouts.

I hope that these 5 tips helped you in some way. Let me know if you would like an updated skincare routine from me in the future, by tweeting me @AbbeyFHagan

Abbey
