This Milan update is very much delayed considering I've been back in the US for almost 3 weeks now, but to be honest every time I sat down to write this post I always got really sad. Tears would fill my eyes as I would try to think of the proper way to say goodbye to my favorite place.
I have now come to terms with the fact that I am back in the United States and back in Tuscaloosa for my senior year (what?!) of college. Not gonna lie...the first couple days back in Tuscaloosa were hard. I had the distraction of being at my sorority all day but then once I was home it sunk in that I wasn't in the city that made me the happiest I've ever been anymore and I would be lying if I said that nights weren't filled with many, many tears.
If you've read my last two posts (which you can read here and here) you would know just how happy my time abroad made me. I truly feel like I was the best version of myself there and I miss it every single day. However, with that being said, it makes me want to work really hard to hopefully return abroad after graduation. Yes, you read that right - I am dying to go back to working abroad!
Now to get you caught up on all that happened after my Life in Milan #2 update...
After my sister left, I finished my last week at work. Once again, words can't describe how much I loved my time working at Spazio38. The people that I met and the experiences I got to have are some that I will cherish forever. I mean who wouldn't love to be surrounded by beautiful clothes all day and work with amazing people?! I truly felt so lucky to be there.
The weekend after I finished up at Spazio38, my friend Hayley and I ventured off to Verona and Venice. If you are interested in watching my vlogs from that weekend, you can here and here.
Verona was incredibly beautiful and surpassed any expectations I had. It is a city that is pretty underrated in my opinion, as I never really heard anyone say "you HAVE to go to Verona". It wasn't too far of a train ride from Milan, which is why Hayley and I decided to stop there for the night on our way to Venice.
Many of you probably know this, but if you don't, Verona is where the Romeo and Juliet story takes place. While we were there, we ended up going to Juliet's balcony which was incredibly cool, as it's something I've always learned about in school.
We definitely ate our way through Verona and needless to say, I was sad we didn't have more time there.
Next up was Venice. Venice is a destination that everyone says you just have to go to, but I was personally less than impressed. I know that I am the unpopular opinion, but I just didn't like it that much. I would have much rather stayed the weekend in Verona, but it's all good - at least I can say I saw it!
What I didn't mention was that when my sister left we began talking about how we really wanted to meet up again while we were both in Europe. It ended up working out that I could meet up with her and her best friend from high school, Jeffrey, in Prague.
Prague was a city that was not originally on my list of places I wanted to go, but I am SO glad that I ended up going. The entire city was unlike anything I had seen all summer which I loved. The food was delicious and there was so much to see/do. I also vlogged a bit of my time in Prague which you can watch here.
While in Prague, my sister and I decided to be #rebels and go skydiving. Halle, my sister, had been twice before that and that was my first time. I am so glad that we ended up doing it and that we did it together! If you are on the fence about doing it, just do it. I loved every second of it (even though I thought I was gonna pass out on the plane ride up haha).
After Prague it was time to return to Milan and move out of my apartment. After move out, I checked into a hotel and waited on my sweet mama to get to Milan!
When my mom got to Milan I was able to show her all of my favorite places and we were able to eat at some of my favorite spots. She even fell in love with aperol spritz's just like I did this summer!
We only had a day in Milan since we were going to Lake Como, Rome, Paris and London all in a 2 and a half week period! I won't go through every city as I'm sure you can guess what we did: eat, laugh, drink, shop, eat, laugh, sleep.
It was my moms first time to Europe and to be able to experience it all with her will always be one of my favorite memories. I loved every second of our trip - I mean how could I not have? I was in some of the best cities in the world with my favorite person in the world. Life couldn't have gotten better.
So thank you to my sweet mommy for taking me on the trip of a lifetime, I'm so glad I got to experience it with my very best friend! I love you so much and I miss eating caico e pepe with you :(
Once our traveling was over, we had one last night in Milan. We ate at my favorite restaurant, Obica, that overlooks the duomo and reflected on not only my summer, but the trip we had just taken together.
There were some tears shed on my end, but the real flood of tears didn't come until we were on the plane the next day. Once on the plane back to the states, it all hit me that I was leaving. Leaving the place that brought me more joy than I ever though possible, the place that made me cry from happiness, the place that I found my best self in.
Through the tears, I realized that it didn't have to be a goodbye, but just a see you later.
As I said earlier, I'm going to try my hardest to go back abroad if I can because of how much I loved it. So hopefully the "see you later" only lasts a year!
Once again, thank you to all my readers, friends and family that supported my journey throughout the entire summer. I was shocked at the amount of love I received from all my girls in DG when I got back to Bama - it's pretty cool when you know people are genuinely so happy for you. I'm glad I've surrounded myself with the best girls on campus!
And of course thank you to Milano. Thank you for being the best place on earth to spend the summer...I now know what it's like to fall madly in love with a city.
I'll be doing a Milan travel guide in the next few weeks so lookout for that! But until then, check back weekly for new posts!
Love from Dixie,
Abbey
